About / Company History

For over twenty years, Worrell Water Technologies and its predecessor companies have been developing and refining Living Machine® wastewater treatment systems.

The idea of using biological processes to treat polluted water was first explored by Dr. Käthe Seidel, a biologist at the Max Plank Institute, in the early 1950s.  In the 1960s, ecological designer Dr. John Todd made the first attempts to use the plants and bacteria in a commercial system to treat wastewater.  But Todd's efforts were never entirely successful.  The idea was groundbreaking, but it needed to work in the field.

That's where Tom Worrell came into the picture.  In 1999 Worrell, an investor and partner in Todd's projects since the early 1980s, acquired the registered trademarks and all of the intellectual property of the Living Machine concept from Dr. Todd.

Since that time, Worrell's investment in R & D and his exacting business sense have finally made John Todd's vision into a reliable commercial reality.  Worrell Water Technologies' Living Machine® now has dozens of successful installations worldwide.  It is the only proven and completely dependable ecological system of wastewater treatment.  Ask our customers....

In 2006, Worrell Water Technologies acquired HydroSecureTM, the best-in-class system of on-site water purification developed for the US Departments of State and Defense. The technology was tested by government investigators against attack-level contamination by biological, chemical, and radiological threats.  HydroSecure is the only system proven to produce purified water to better than EPA standards under such extreme conditions.

The company is now in final stage development of Curoxin, a ground-breaking chemical which disinfects water in a way that is non-toxic, leaves zero residue, and is completely safe for the environment.

Worrell's investments in water treatment are now under one roof as Worrell Water Technologies, LLC.  The company's business offices and research and development facilities are located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
